Winter 02 is here! This winter season we celebrate the art of slowing down and all the joys of gift giving during the holiday season. To capture the spirit of the season, look no further than the Danish concept of “hygge” (pronounced hue-gah) which loosely translates to coziness yet is more accurately defined not as a word, but as a feeling — one that makes ordinary, every day things more special and meaningful. Happiness, security, familiarity, comfort, kinship — what word describes hygge for you?
Sitting by the fire in the presence of family while drinking mulled wine and a good book….that’s definitely hygge. And remember, this concept of hygge was never meant to be translated…it was meant to be felt.
This winter we invite you find your own sense of hygge and be wrapped in the spirit of #quarterlanejoy.
For Winter 02, we are pleased to feature our celebrated favorites: Winter Fiction, The Aesthete and Juniper books for quarterlane, and add a few new ones to the mix: The Gentleman’s Quarterlane, The Epicurean and The Wellness Box – a selection from which to give to others or to yourself!
We have also redesigned this space — The Edit! This will be a place for us to come together as a community of book lovers, to hear from authors and other industry movers and shakers, to offer tips, home and lifestyle highlights and above all else, to have fun!
In 2001, I read article in The New York Times by Ethan Watters titled In My Tribe which was a part of the NYT series: The Way We Live Now. Without embellishment, this article changed my life and put me on a path to build community and celebrate community. It has inspired me in countless ways — in my own writing and exhibition collaborations and, most importantly, in my outlook on life: how I define family and where I find family. And, without question, In My Tribe brought me to this space — to build a community of readers with you.
So I hope you check back to The Edit often and find this to be a vibrant space to share and celebrate books!
