I am overjoyed to feature this nightstand and reader for quarterlane’s The QL Nightstand series, as this is one reader who has inspired me for as long as I can remember — my dear cousin, Sarah Kay. Sarah’s style, her reading habits, her sense of humor, her ready laugh, her keen awareness, her exuberance, her friendship, her grounded sense of home and family balanced with a love for travel and adventure make her quite simply my most inspiring reader. Read on to find out what inspires Sarah . . .
QL: What are you reading right now and what’s on your “to be read” list?
SK: Right now, I am reading Home by Harlan Coben. I am a suspense girl and love his books. On my list is Truly Madly Guilty by Laine Moriarty, Heroes of the Frontier by Dave Eggers and Commonwealth by Ann Patchett.
QL: What is your favorite bedtime / nighttime ritual?
SK: I love getting into bed at night and mute the tv and read away. I usually have a cup of herbal tea on my nightstand. Now that winter is rapidly approaching, a hot beverage is always a good idea.
QL: Literary hero?
SK: My literary hero is Claudia Kincaid from The Mixed -Up Files of Mrs.Basil E. Frankweiler. I don’t know how many times I have read that book. I believe that book was my first literary love. I couldn’t imagine living in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I lived vicariously through Claudia’s encounters.
QL: The best thing about books is . . . .
SK: They take you away. No matter what your emotional state is or how good or bad your day has been. Books are the transportation system of your imagination, mind and soul.
